It’s time to share with you some of the
wonderful excitement that will be taking place in our classroom as we move into
October.
One of our major units during this month will be built around
Leaves + Trees = FUN!!!

We
will discuss the falling leaves, autumn colors, days getting shorter and the
temperature getting colder. We will
discover more about the
many
kinds of trees and leaves and identifying the parts of both the tree and the
leaf.
Some
activities will be: building a tree and acting out the various parts of a tree,
leaf rubbing and sponge painting.
I hope that your child will share with
you some of this unbe-LEAF-able work!

In Religion, the children
will help recognize real heroes in the world today.
They will also be able to
identify saints as people who help us to follow Jesus. They will hopefully
inspire us to act in good and holy ways.
In the next chapter 4, we
will explore celebrations in which we give praise and thanks, through prayers
and music.

Don’t
forget to go over the Chapter Review with your child. It covers all the important concepts

In Math we moved on to Chapter 3,
Subtraction facts. In this chapter
the children will study subtraction properties and strategies to find
differences from 20. Counting back
by 1, 2, or 3, using a number line, using a addition
table and using related addition facts are all strategies for finding the
answers to subtraction facts.
Since addition and
subtraction are inverse operations, there are “families of facts”
for addition and subtraction.
Children will continue to
use the 4-step process graphic organizer to solve problems.
What’s the Question? Understand (the facts) Plan
the picture, Solve the number sentence.
ü Parents please be
sure to review all addition and subtraction facts through l8 with your child
each night. It will certainly help
your child out in class.
Parents please note: Remember to keep all your math book
pages that come home.
This will help you at the
end of the Chapter to study for the test(s).
All pages are torn out as we go over the
material each day, therefore,
you will not have any pages
in the book to study from at the time of the test.

Connecting Phonics and Spelling together, children
will learn and review the short vowel sounds of a, e, i,
o, u.
Phonics
skills include isolating and identifying short vowel sounds, segmenting and
blending onsets and rimes,
and
reading and writing short vowel words in context.
