OCTOBER NEWS

 

BOOK IT!!!

October is the beginning of the Book-It Program.  All fifth grade students will be participating in it this year.  The goal for October is 650 minutes.  I will be stamping their papers everyday for 30 min. during DEAR time.  Please make sure you initial the minutes they read at home.      Thanks!

 

I will use this web page to keep you up to date with what’s happening in the classroom.  

 

Religion:

In Religion we have been studying the Beatitudes and how we can live them in our own lives. 

We will soon start our focus on the seven sacraments.    

 

English/Language Arts:

In English we are focusing on sentences, the four types of sentences, complete subject & predicate, simple subject and predicate, compound and simple sentences.  We also have been working on using editing marks to fix sentences.

****ENGLISH SEEMS TO BE THE AREA THAT NEEDS THE MOST WORK FOR SOME STUDENTS IN THIS CLASS*****

 

Reading:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the first book we are reading as a class. We will be doing some fun projects like writing letters to chocolate making factories, creating golden tickets, learning about where chocolate comes from, learn about extended families, and possibly going on a chocolate field trip. (NO LUCK ON THE FIELD TRIP SO FAR) sorryL

 

Math:

We have adding and subtracting numbers greater than five.

 

Science:

We are continuing to learn about the structure and function of plants.  We have and will be busy creating our plant books called Plants Inside and Out (in progress).

 

Social Studies:

We are learning about the early civilizations.

Also, how they learned to adapt to their environment and things around them in order to survive.  We will start learning about early explorers and we will be creating history pockets.

 

Other Important Information!!!!!

 

- Our pumpkins have been picked up.  Keep your fingers crossed, and hope we win again this year.

- In October we will be choosing 10 pieces of art work to send to the Regional Office to be judged.

- The Living Rosary will be Tuesday, October 7th in the church.  Please come and join us

 

We have been very busy with all kinds of projects and contests, and we hope to get some more classroom time back in the schedule.
