ART PROGRAM

            Dear Parents and Students,

Thank you for your generous support of the Art Program.  Your donations of art supplies (colored pencils, tissue paper, colored chalk, sunflower seeds, paper bags, magazines, markers…) are greatly appreciated.  I am looking forward to using the materials with the students in the coming weeks.

In addition, please continue to clip the Box Tops for Education coupons.  I will be mailing the current batch to the company the week of October 20.

                                                            Sincerely,

                                                            Sister Susan

Joliet Catholic Academy

On Joliet Catholic Academy website (www.jca-online.org ), you will find the following link under the Prospective Students / Placement Exam.

http://www.actstudent.org/explore/ If your child plans to attend Joliet Catholic Academy next year this information might give your child an overview of the Explore test they will be taking in December.

This link is extremely helpful for students and parents who are interested in preparing for the EXPLORE test.  There are actually sample questions right there, in addition to a great deal of other pertinent information.  As a reminder, Joliet Catholic Academy also offers the Pre-test Workshop for 8th graders and parents on the Wednesday evening prior to the Placement Exam.  Attending this event really helps parents and students to get rid of those pre-test jitters.  J   This year’s Workshop will take place on Wed., December 3, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.

Life Touch Pictures

The students in all grades had their pictures taken on Thursday, October 6 th.  If your child was absent on this day, there will be a make up day for retakes. At the present time we have not received confirmation of the retake date.

Flag Football

The SMN Flag Football team was victorious over St Joe’s Lockport by 20-13 on Saturday September 27th.  SMN lost to SM Plainfield and Holy Family

Jared Olson helped the team by scoring on the opening kick-off, on a run from scrimmage, and later on by running back an intercepted pass that he and Michael G caught at the same time.  Michael G had a nice double hand-off run left to gain a first down and help seal the victory.  Cameron G busted his way through the line for several tackles behind the line of scrimmage.  Cameron G also caught a nice two point conversion pass.  Nick R had some great effort flag pulls to help stop St Joe’s offense.  Overall the defense did very well and our quarterback Mike B ran an efficient offense.  And the whole team contributed to the victory and the fun!!!

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Next Sunday, October 12 we are inviting all children (Preschool to 4th grade) to join us for Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 10:30 mass.  This liturgy for children, which takes place during the readings and the homily, is directed by volunteer catechists who explain God’s word in a way that is adapted for little children. This instruction is held in the Nativity Room next door.

If you have little ones and would like to take advantage of this great opportunity for your children to enjoy growing in their faith, join us every Sunday during the 10:30 mass.

Also, please pray for all those involved in this ministry, especially our catechists: Sister Marjorie Westendorf, Sister Susan Wade, Nicki Anderson, Judy Dehm and Jodene Rathbun.
