Happy Fall!

I have listed some of the things I plan to accomplish during the month of November.

Math help is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, from 3:00 – 3:30. Students may come in for extra help on their math homework. Students should let me know they are coming in.

6th Grade English – We will cover units 10 through 13 in spelling. We normally cover a unit a week with the test being on Friday. Each unit has challenge words that students can study and will be used on the test for extra credit. In English, we will complete unit 2 on nouns. The units are quite long so I will be giving two tests per unit.

6th Grade Reading – We will continue reading Esperanza Rising. This story takes place in 1930’s and deals with immigration of a family into the United States from Mexico. There will be vocabulary words and quizzes and a number of activities throughout the book.

5th Grade Math – Some students are currently reviewing division by one- and two-digit numbers. Students that have mastered this will be moving on to measurement and statistics. Quizzes will be given throughout the chapters. No calculator use at this time.

6th Grade Math – Some students are reviewing division by one- and two-digit numbers. Students that have mastered this are working on patterns and variables and will move on to number theory and fractions. Quizzes are given throughout the chapter. Some chapters will end with a project. Students cannot use calculators at this time for homework, quizzes or tests.

7th Grade Math – Students are currently working on solving one- and two-step equations and inequalities. We will then move on to exponents, factors and fractions. Quizzes will be given throughout the chapters. Calculators cannot be used on homework, quizzes, or tests at this time.

8th Grade Math – Both groups are currently working solving inequalities, but they will be working from 2 different textbooks. The algebra group will then work on setting equations and solving word problems. After inequalities, the red book group will move on to operations with real numbers. There will be quizzes throughout the chapter. Some chapters will end with a project. Calculators can be used on homework, quizzes, or tests at this time.
