Academics
This last newsletter brings us to the close of yet another school year. It certainly flew by. The third graders learned a lot of new things, especially multiplication and division.
We completed our basic math facts, learned about area, perimeter, and volume
and are not learning how to divide with remainders. It would be helpful to
review multiplication and division facts this summer as much of the 4th grade
work depends on this knowledge.
We are anticipating our math contest with the 4th grade this week.
Some of us are beginning our chapter books in reading and most of us are ready for the last level in third grade---Level 20.
The winners of our last spelling bee were Audrey and Reese.
Learning about eating healthy has held our attention in Science. We’ve learned about the Food Pyramid and the basic nutrients in food. Some of us are surprised at what we’re learning.
We’ve now begun to learn about adjectives in English—those that tell what kind, how many, articles, and which one. Here come the adverbs.
In Social Studies we learned about inventions, inventors, goods, and services. We even designed our own inventions.
One of the newest saints we learned about was St. Gianna, an Italian pediatrician, who gave her life so her child could be born. We saw pictures of her on the Internet. This week we are learning about Cardinal Joseph Bernadin.
Thanks to all the room moms and room dads who helped in any way this year with field trips, parties, art projects, or just lending an extra hand when needed. May God reward you!
Blessings on all of us as we begin a restful summer! May God hold you in the palm of His hand!
